Sign – Isolation Precaution - Enhanced Barrier - Laminated - 10" x 5"
On July 26, 2019, CDC issued new interim guidance for LTC facilities regarding PPE protection in light of increased risk for multi-drug resistant organism (MDRO) transmission:
"With the need for an effective response to the detection of serious antibiotic resistance threats, there is growing evidence that current implementation of Contact Precautions in nursing homes is not adequate for prevention of MDRO transmission." CDC guidance introduces a new approach called Enhanced Barrier Precautions which falls between Standard and Contact Precautions.
This new Briggs precaution sign provides guidance for PPE use and room restriction in nursing homes for preventing transmission of novel or targeted MDROs during specific high-contact resident care activities that have been found to increase risk for MDRO transmission.
[NOTE: Enhanced Barrier Precautions are not intended for use in acute care or long-term acute care hospitals. CDC guidance for Enhanced Barrier Precautions does not replace existing guidance regarding use of Contact Precautions for other pathogens (e.g., Clostridioides difficile or norovirus) in nursing homes.]
